I shared my frustrations here before about not being able to breastfeed my baby because she often refuses to latch and would howl in anger whenever I try to breastfeed her. I resigned myself to only rarely getting the chance to feed her directly. As you know, I have an Excel sheet for everything, so I know that until the end of my 4-month maternity leave, I was only able to breastfeed her 15 times.
And now she wants to breastfeed, after I’ve gone back to work!
It started on Sunday, 22 Sep. I was trying to get her to sleep and just tried to breastfeed her on an instinct. It worked. She fed for 33 minutes and fell promptly asleep without having to be rocked or anything. The next night, it was the same. I would clean her up, change her nappy, put on her sleeping clothes, read a book, then I would try to breastfeed her, and she would latch happily. Sometimes she would latch even though she’s not hungry – she would only use it to make herself sleepy – and I don’t mind at all!
I’m just so happy with this turn of events, because at least I get to experience the magic of breastfeeding every night. I hope she continues to want it. If she doesn’t, I will still keep trying.
